Eight gentlemen were guided whose brave hearts were filled with noble purpose and whose eyes saw clearly into the future at Florida State University were led by Trevor A Charles into a brotherhood in 1985. Trevor Charles and his gallant group laid the foundation for the great fraternity that we are today.

Trevor A. Charles
The originator of the idea and founding father of Delta Phi Upsilon was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. Founder Charles attended private schools on the small island of Dominica, from kindergarten through high school. In 1982, he and his family immigrated to Miami, Florida, where he entered the Hialeah Miami Lake Senior High School, from which he graduated. Delta Phi Upsilon has a good reason to be proud of its founder, for throughout the years he has continuously distinguished himself. From the original inception, Founder Charles has worked for betterment of black gay society and for the glorification of Delta. Founder Charles has proven to be a driving power in Delta Phi Upsilon and its predecessors. Were it not for his vision, hard work, determination and planning in the early years Delta would not be were it is today. He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida receiving his Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Founder Charles now resides in Barbados.
